My first two sessions of 2020 were both newborn lifestyle shoots…and I’m not mad about it! In fact, I’m quite in love. Anyone who has ever had or met a baby only a few days old, know’s that there is a certain magic that comes with newborns. Especially when there is an older sibling to peek over the bassinet and give “gentle” kisses and tickles 🙂 There is nothing like it!! And I love that this session was at their home, cozied up on their bed with all that beautiful light pouring in through the windows. You guys, I might have found my calling… 🙂
There are so many reasons I fell in love with this newborn lifestyle session! Like the fact that the Youngrens designed and built this home from the ground up. The space we occupied was the master bedroom, and basically with my dream aesthetics of white, brown and green. Modern yet cozy. Natural light everywhere. I loved that grandma was there to help with that sweet, blue-eyed toddler and that everything was so relaxed and slow-paced. The Moses basket that we put baby Sage in is EXCEPTIONAL. I need one for ALL my newborn shoots now. The outfits were perfect, the family is beautiful through and through…need I go on? This was a dream shoot.
I am finding more and more that I love unposed, real moments in photography. Those are the images that move me the most, in my work and in other’s work as well. I understand the importance of light, color pallets, aesthetics, settings, and skill…but I’m finding that true beauty doesn’t need all of that to exist and be captured. I’m not sure where this change of perspective is leading me, but I’m happy to be on this road. I’m more fulfilled with my job, and happier with my images than I have ever been before. I look at these photos and they make me smile even deep in my bones. Whatever that is…I think that’s the direction I am heading with photography and I’m excited about it.
I hope you enjoy watching the joy unfold through these photos! Check out the other Family Session from a few weeks ago, and feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments! xoxo, Kayla.
