Newborn Lifestyle Session: I never thought I would want to be a newborn photographer. I’ve tried a couple of times, I had ample practice with my boys and I loved the experience with them. I’d wrap my Judah Wayne in an adorable newborn hat, placing him oh-so-perfectly on our white comforter and trying to snag the shot before he peed all over the bed again.

It was fun, but not something I wanted to stumble through with clients. It takes a SPECIAL kind of photographer to get those babies wrapped up cute and perfect and lay them in a basket overflowing with lace and bows. My hats’ off to them for sure– that’s hard!

But you guys know me, I love to tell stories with photos. So when I had the opportunity for a more lifestyle type newborn session, I was so excited! There is something magical and precious about those first 48 hours…The hours that hold the first snuggles, the joy, the relief that it’s over and your baby is HERE. It’s quiet and soft.

Photographing inside a hospital room is challenging because you are stuck with what you got. If that means low light and orange walls? You roll with it. Monitors and cords and curtains? Get cozy and move them around. You see, when the photos emphasize the connection between the family, the location doesn’t seem to matter–it’s just a part of the story.  It doesn’t matter where you are, it’s about photographing the moments as they unfold, between the people who matter most.

Some of my favorite moments from this shoot were when his big sister, Cate, peeked over his bassinet and shared kisses and snuggles (and maybe a poke or two). I think she will be the sweetest big sister! I hope you enjoy these pictures, and sweet baby, Leo 🙂

xoxo,

Kayla
