A friend asked me the other day what I like to shoot most. I wasn’t sure how to answer because I’m drawn to many styles of photography, and the different ways it can be used… but after stumbling around for a second, naming off what I love to shoot, I think I realized it boiled down to a couple things.

One- connection. I really REALLY love when a photograph genuinely captures a connection between people. I tend to like it between couples and small family’s. More than an epic location, more than the perfect wardrobe (which BTW, all helps create a great photo), I look first at who’s interacting and if it seems real. You can tell usually, because it makes you FEEL something if you take a second to look.

Two- I love beautiful photographs. They don’t have to be perfect, rule-of-thirds, zero’d in focus or the most put-together palette. But when all of those factors come together, even imperfectly, to make a beautiful photo, I’m sold.

This is why this family session is one of my favorites from this year. I absolutely loved working with these kiddos, and the family had a great attitude even though it was freezing. We picked the best time of day to get that golden light, and the setting was beautiful. All of this came together to create a beautiful shoot that I think they will cherish always.
